These classes are designed for beginners, as well as those who want to strengthen their skills and understanding, in a supportive and focused environment. The aim is to help you build real confidence in drawing and painting, and to develop your own artistic voice.

Classes take place in a calm, cosy studio space in Athenry, with very small groups (maximum 8 people), so everyone receives individual attention, practical advice, and thoughtful guidance.

We work with a variety of subjects, including still life, objects, and local landscapes, exploring drawing, colour, composition, and materials through a structured, skill-based approach inspired by classical art methods. These methods come from a strong academic tradition and focus on foundational skills that are now rarely taught, giving you a unique opportunity to learn techniques that will strengthen your artistic independence.

This is not a paint-along class. I explain what we are doing and why, helping you understand the principles behind drawing and painting so you can make your own creative decisions. Some exercises may feel a little challenging at first, but you’ll be guided and supported throughout, progressing at your own pace.

Alongside skill-building exercises, we also include more creative and enjoyable projects—such as colour-based abstract work and watercolour studies—so you can explore materials, experiment, and have fun while learning.

Each class is a separate project, so you can join or return at any point within your course.
